Calculate Your GPA
How to Use This Grade Calculator
- Add one row per course and type the course name (optional, just to stay organized).
- Choose the letter grade you earned — or select Percentage… and enter your score as a number from 0 to 100.
- Enter the course’s credit hours (heavier courses count more toward your GPA).

Grade Point Scale
Most schools convert letter grades to grade points on the standard 4.0 scale. Percentages convert using the same table:
| Grade | Percentage | Grade Points |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 97–100 | 4.0 |
| A | 93–96 | 4.0 |
| A− | 90–92 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 87–89 | 3.3 |
| B | 83–86 | 3.0 |
| B− | 80–82 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 77–79 | 2.3 |
| C | 73–76 | 2.0 |
| C− | 70–72 | 1.7 |
| D+ | 67–69 | 1.3 |
| D | 63–66 | 1.0 |
| D− | 60–62 | 0.7 |
| F | Below 60 | 0.0 |
GPA Formula
Your GPA is a weighted average — courses with more credit hours influence the result more than lighter courses:
GPA = Σ (grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours
Worked Examples
Example 1: Letter grades
Suppose you took three courses: Mathematics (A = 4.0 points, 3 credits), English (B+ = 3.3 points, 3 credits), and History (A− = 3.7 points, 4 credits).
Grade points: (4.0 × 3) + (3.3 × 3) + (3.7 × 4) = 12.0 + 9.9 + 14.8 = 36.7.
Total credits: 3 + 3 + 4 = 10.
GPA = 36.7 ÷ 10 = 3.67 (about an A− average).
Example 2: Percentage grades
Suppose you earned 92% in Biology (A− = 3.7 points, 4 credits) and 85% in Chemistry (B = 3.0 points, 4 credits).
Grade points: (3.7 × 4) + (3.0 × 4) = 14.8 + 12.0 = 26.8.
Total credits: 4 + 4 = 8.
GPA = 26.8 ÷ 8 = 3.35 (about a B+ average), with a weighted average percentage of 88.5%.
Our Testing Process
Every DaProfitClub tool is tested before publishing. For this grade calculator we verified GPA results by hand against the credit-weighted formula, checked edge cases such as empty rows, missing grades, and zero credits, and confirmed the calculation runs only when you click a button — never automatically on page load.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is the credit-weighted average of your grade points on a 4.0 scale. Multiply each grade’s point value (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0) by its credit hours, add those products together, then divide by your total credit hours.
What is a good GPA?
On a 4.0 scale, a GPA of 3.5 or higher is generally considered strong and competitive for honors programs and graduate school, while 3.0 is roughly average. What counts as good depends on your school, major, and goals, so check the expectations of the programs you are targeting.
How do I convert a percentage grade to GPA?
Match your percentage to the 4.0 scale — for example, 90–92% = A− = 3.7 points, 83–86% = B = 3.0 points, 73–76% = C = 2.0 points. This calculator does the conversion for you automatically: choose Percentage in the grade dropdown and enter your score from 0 to 100.
Do all schools use the same 4.0 GPA scale?
Most high schools and colleges in the United States use the standard unweighted 4.0 scale shown in the table above. Some schools use a weighted scale (up to 5.0) that awards extra points for honors or AP courses. This calculator uses the standard unweighted 4.0 scale.
Can I calculate my GPA for a single semester?
Yes. Enter only the courses from that semester and click Calculate GPA. To find your cumulative GPA across multiple semesters, enter every course you have completed, since each course is weighted by its credit hours.
