When Is The Next Leap Year

What is a leap year?

Leap year is 366 days long year rather than 365 days like normal year. An extra day is added to the 28days of the February of the leap year.

Why is leap day needed?

It takes the Earth approximately 365.242189 days OR 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds, to complete one circle around the Sun. This is called a tropical year. Leap day is needed to keep our calendar in-line with the Earth's revolutions around the Sun.

How to calculate leap year?

Now time to check if a year is a leap year or not!

This is very easy to check than you think.

The year must be divisible by 4.

If the year is divisible by 100, it must also be divisible by 400.

Use the following leap year formula:

Year /4 = X

2024 /4 = 506 - 2024 is a leap year.

After you divide the year by 4, the obtained number should be an integer (X). That means that its remainder must be equal to 0.

If your year has two zeros at the end (e.g., 1900) you should also check if it can be divided by 400, leaving no remainder.

1900 / 400 = 4.75 is a remainder, 1900 is not a leap year.
